Steroids in Baseball
This issue to me is a non-issue. I really do not care that Barry Bonds, Mark McGuire, Roger Clemens, and now A-Rod, have used performance enhancers. I believe that it was society that caused the problem not the men themselves. Think about it, we place these guys up on a pedestal, expect them to perform every day at the highest level possible and when they have a slump or a bad game on a big stage we crush and ridicule the same people we envy. Most of the guys named here carried their teams on their backs, that has to be a tremedous amount of pressure for a human being. I suspected Bonds, McGuire and A-Rod, but Clemens shocked me it really did. I guess if a guy who is as old as my dad throwing 97-98 mph should throw up a red flag though. The media is provided with way too much information these days from "sources" familiar with the investigation. I strongly believe that if Babe Ruth could of used roids that he damn well would of along with every other great to play the game. Then you have Curt Schilling screaming that he wants all the names released that have ever tested positive for steroids, since when is this fucking joke an ambassador to the game. I'd be willing to bet ol Schill has done a couple of things in his career that he is not proud of, like the infamous bloody sock, that was ketchup my friends. I am tired of other athletes saying they never knew who was doing roids and who wasnt. When you spend that kind of time with other people on road trips and just the rigors of a season you know who is doing what to get by, they spend many years with the same guys and you can not tell me they dont notice those significant body changes. I truly believe that almost every marginal major league baseball player dabbled in some type of performance enhancer, noone can tell me differently, i quite honestly do not care who did or did not do it. Some guys just took the use to an extreme level and just couldnt stop. If you did it and got away with it good for you, if you did it and got caught thats your problem.

of course everyone knew what was going on...but there's a code in baseball, and players don't rat out their brothers (look at the shit torre is getting for his tell-all book.)
ReplyDeleteand guys throughout the history of baseball have been known to use drugs...the coke trials in the 80's right here in the 'burgh; mickey mantle was among many players who were huge alcoholics (it's what ultimately killed mantle at a young age) and greenies were abused for decades, they were readily available in any clubhouse until they were banned a few years ago. like you said, you can't blame these guys for trying to cope in a high-pressure environment, people in regular everyday jobs abuse this stuff too.
Yeah, although i despise Baseball for providing such boredom, this would have to go for every human being to make it "ok" then as it got more exposure other things would pop up like, "well I only hit her because I'm stressed out and getting millions for it" and all sports do it there's no doubt about it. Go youtube soccer player deaths, performance enhancing drugs aren't illegal everywhere, these soccer players randomly fall over on the field their hearts are so bad from this stuff. Although I don't think it's worth it, it does how ever make an incredibly boring baseball game slightly more enjoyable for about 12.4 seconds a month.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading something about the Chargers head coach handing every player some pink pills, apparently it was some sort of steroid during a playoff season awhile back...Elite maybe you know something more about that.
norv turner handed out little pills to all the chargers this year at heinz field. they were not performance enhancers though, it was birth control. he didnt want any of his players getting pregnant because he knew the steelers were going to bend them over and fuck their assholes.
ReplyDeletegreat read BGK!
If you roided, awesome - but Clemens, you are a sack of shit. Watch him end up going Benoit on his family, just wait.
As for the hall of fame #1 there shouldn't be a baseball hall of fame #2 Since there is one, these guys are breaking records set by non - roiders and if anything it was more than likely alcohol and the pot well and coke...great they ran faster what ever. Even I, an avid baseball hater think it's bullshit these people that are watching their careers slip by so fast that they need to roid up to stay with the game ( but also give you all that 12.4 s) are still being considered is wrong.
ReplyDeleteThis is a subject near and dear to my heart. I always laugh when people bash baseball especially when they never played. Let me just explain something first and foremost. STEROIDS DO NOT HELP HIT A BASEBALL!The only benefit steroids and HGH give a baseball player is recovering faster for the long gruelling season.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that grinds my gears about this whole thing is that the US Government found it their place to investigate instead of allowing baseball to police itself. They wasted over $20 million of taxpayer money. Lets look at what happened while they were wasting taxpayer dollars for this ridiculous report. The housing market collapsed, gas went to $4 a gallon and oil companies recorded record profit margins, and Osama Bin Laden took 13.67 million breaths of air. Where is the Exxon/Mobile report?
Two things were ultimately accomplished by the Mitchell Report. First, two guys named Bonds and Clemons, both of whom are heroes to many, will probably go to prison(witch hunt anyone?)Second, children in America now know FOR SURE that they need to take steroids to be pro athletes.
who cares about the recession? a-rod is a juicer! priorities people!
ReplyDeleteShould I take down my sons poster then?
ReplyDeletePeter Gammons is in the hall of fame. If Barry Bonds, Clemons, or A-rod don't get in I will drive to Cooperstown and take a dump on The Babe!
ReplyDeleteIf broadcasters get in, players that have the numbers should get in no matter what.(unless they bang Madonna, sorry A-Rod!).
Im suprisingly gonna have to agree with pwhallstrom i dont even understand the point of wanting to get into the hall of fame. Its a joke, the best players in the world wont even get in it so whats the point. Clemens was a hall of famer before he ever threw a pitch for Toronto, Bonds would of been a shoe in, McGuire was questionable at best. The thing is if 80% of the players were roided up,then to me it seems like an even playing field. Am i wrong??
ReplyDeleteIf not for the steroid thing Mac was a first ballot guy. He hit 49 homers his rookie year. He is 5th all time in career homers and was the first (and one of only 2 guys) to hit 70.
ReplyDeleteThe "big deal" about the Hall of Fame is that if voted in, a guy becomes immortal. Your bust is in the same room as The Babe, Clemente, Mantle, Aaron, Gerig, so on. Any baseball fan gets goosebumps when the Hall is even talked about. Any player that says they dont care about being in the Hall is bullshitting and thats that.
the hall of fame had its place 20 years ago. now guys who had decent careers who whine enough get in. dont get me wrong the guys that are in there deserve to be in there but if pete rose cant get in its a fucking joke.
ReplyDeletejust thought of the greatest business opportunity ever...i'm buying a vacant lot in latrobe somewhere and opening the baseball "hall of shame." any guy who has doubts surrounding his HOF candidacy is eligible. inaugural class includes mcgwire, shoeless joe jackson and the black sox, dave parker (still isn't in the hall, prob because of his coke usage) and pete rose. it will be a baseball tourist's dream, we'll make millions.
ReplyDeletei'm also going to include a special wing dedicated to the last two decades of pirates baseball. first class inducted includes derek bell, pat meares, dave littlefield and a lifetime achievement award for barry bonds. i'll call it the Francisco Cabrera Memorial Wing.
ReplyDeleteYou should have a video montage for Derek Bell's operation shut down.
